Booth Information for the
2008 Swallows Day Mercado

The 2008 Swallows' Day Parade & Mercado will take place on Saturday, March 29 from 8:00am to 5:00pm (Parade is from 11:00 to 1:30pm). All booths must be set up before 8:00am and remain setup until 5:00 pm. This is a rain or shine event, which simply means that this event will not be rescheduled.

1. All booth applicants must submit the following to the San Juan Capistrano Fiesta Association (referred to as S.J.C.F.A. in this document).

1.1 An S.J.C.F.A. Booth application and a check made payable to the S.J.C.F.A.

1.2 A City of San Juan Capistrano Business License Application and a check made payable to the S.J.C.F.A. for $5.00. Currently licensed San Juan Capistrano business and nonprofit groups are exempt from the $5.00 fee, however, the form must still be completed indicating so, and returned to the S.J.C.F.A.

1.3 You are responsible for your own clean up, including trash removal and providing trash bins at your booth. Prior to 5:00pm an inspection will be made. If your area is not clean, you will be subject to a $50.00 cleanup fee. After your area has been inspected and approved, your clean up deposit will be returned to you by mail in the form of an S.J.C.F.A. check.

2. Applicants wishing to sell food (hot or cold, snacks or beverages) must also contact Orange County Health Department for their food handling rules. The Health Department has advised us that all food booths WILL be inspected and the health rules will be strictly enforced. All food booths MUST obtain and display a separate handling permit from the Orange County Health Department. There are different regulations for commercial and nonprofit operators.

2.2 Nonprofit organizations must be prepared to provide official, legal documentation.

3. Rules and/or restrictions pertaining to booth operation and merchandise are as follows:

3.1 All booth operators must operate from a stationary location. Moving vendors WILL NOT be permitted and will be escorted from the Mercado area by the Orange County Sheriff..

3.2 The City of San Juan Capistrano prohibits the use and/or consumption of any alcoholic beverage on any city street or in public areas.

3.3 All booth operators must display both their BOOTH PERMIT and CITY LICENSE in their booth on parade day or be subject to a fine and/or closure..

3.4 A current, valid California Board of Equalization "Sellers Permit" is required for all vendors (Nonprofit included) and sales tax is to be collected as required by state law. For permit information and application contact:

3.5 Due to the large number of horses in San Juan Capistrano on Parade Day, it is necessary for all concerned to take extreme care to not "SPOOK" the horses. Balloons (of any kind), floating objects, streamers, silly string, poppers or ANY TYPE of "homemade" weapons are NOT to be displayed, sold or carried. Any violation could result in injury to the horse, the rider ad/or a spectator.  These items WILL NOT be tolerated and will be cause for surrender of vendor space without refund.

3.6 No items may be displayed or sold which imply an official endorsement by the S.J.C.F.A. specifically prohibited are:

The San Juan Capistrano Fiesta Association name and/or logo
The name "Fiesta de las Golondrinas"
The name "Fiesta Association"

4. Deadline for all applications and fees is March 1 ,2008. Applications postmarked after the date will be returned to sender.

5. Permits and licenses will be returned by mail.

6. San Juan Capistrano Fiesta Association does not supply any canopies, tables, chairs, or electricity unless prior arrangements are made and the items are paid for in advance at an additional cost.

7. Booth space is 10' x 10'

8. If you choose, the clean up deposit can be retained by SJCFA to reserve your space for the following year or it can be returned by mail after the event.
